1.  Dawn is Dusk

When I close my eyes before I sleep I still can see in shadows.

Moonlight is my bright companion even when the clouds come in.

Day is night and night is day, and when that’s what you see,

then it’s: sunset, sunrise, twilight, moonlight.  Dawn is dusk to me.

Even though the night is long and cold I do not mind the darkness.

Starlight still can shine down to me in the winter’s rugged hold.

Day is night and night is day, and when that’s what you see,

then it’s: sunset, sunrise, twilight, moonlight.  Dawn is dusk to me.

Time goes by, night turns to day.  And so I wake up and say:

Day is night and night is day, and when that’s what you see,

then it’s: sunset, sunrise, twilight, moonlight.  Dawn is dusk to me.

Dawn is dusk to me.

2.  He Nothing Shines Upon (partial lyrics credit - Jane Taylor)

Now the blazing sun is gone.  Now he nothing shines upon.

And the traveler in the dark thanks you for your tiny spark.

For you never shut your eye till the sun is in the sky.

I can see the stars that are in your eyes and I can see why they shine.

But why, oh why, why do they have to sparkle so far away from here?

And I believe someday the twinkle in your eyes will be met by my smile.

And so until then I’ll say:

In the dark the traveler wanders.

Through the wood he stumbles and cannot see until the clouds divide.

Then he sees you there sparkling and he smiles.

Now the blazing sun is gone.  Now he nothing shines upon.

And the traveler in the dark thanks you for your tiny spark.

For you never shut your eye till the sun is in the sky.

Now the blazing sun is gone.  For now he nothing shines upon.

3.  Isle and Oasis

There in the ocean sits a little isle.  And in the desert an oasis lies.

Someone told me, “Look, son, life’s a lonely road.”

And I said, “No, sir, you must not know what I know.”

This man in reply told me I was young.

And this man told me I should hold my tongue.

I did not listen and I went my way.

He won’t hear me when I say:

“Life is a road, but not a road that must be traveled on all alone.”

So I’d travel with love and then

I would see that I am free to just be me and that’s the key.

So if you love you’re like a dove who flies above the sorrow of the world.

So in the desert the oasis lies all alone, as does the isle in the middle of the sea.

Tides bring change.  Sand blows in the wind.  And the dove soars above.

4.  Without Roads to Guide

Long have I walked down this old country road and ne’er have I seen you come or go.

Even in springtime when it is warm I never have seen you here.

Far and wide I have roamed over hills and fields of emerald green.

In the summer I have trod by the Foxglove and the sea.

Though in springtime I did not find you, still I journeyed on.

And although in summertime you were not on the road I traveled on,

still I journeyed as the days grew short and as the wind grew strong.

For you told me you’d be here; you’d be right along.

But now storms arise and wash the road clean away.  I do not know which way to go.

So I leave the path behind and I find that you are here; I just had to let go.

Now we walk down the lane as a pair and the sun begins to shine.

It shines even in wintertime, in wintertime.

We, you and I, side by side, walk without roads to guide,

for we know where we go not by sight.  And although we grow tired we press on

in the day and the night for we feel what is right.

5.  Who You Are

Who you are I don’t know but I know who you were.

You were somebody who cared for me.

And I cared for you so why did you do all the things you said you wouldn’t?

And now look where we are.  If only you told me, if only I had known,

then I would have seen through your routine and you wouldn’t be alone.

Don’t misunderstand me.  I know it’s no crime,

but if you want a second chance then you’re running out of time.

Who was right in the end?  I don’t know, I don’t care.

It doesn’t matter anymore.  So why do you still remain next to me

when all the things I said to you should have pushed you away?

If only I told you the reasons that I had

then you would have understood for good and you wouldn’t be so sad.

Don’t misunderstand me.  I know it’s no crime,

but if you want a second chance then you’re running out of time.

Stay with me when I’m at home.

Come with me when I go through the world.  Let me hold you hand.

Dance with me when we hear the music play.

Listen, hear it, feel the sway.  Let me hold your hand.

Stay with me when I’m at home.

Come with me when I go through the world.

Let me hold your hand.  (Oh won’t you let me hold your…)

Dance with me when we hear the music play.

Listen, hear it, feel the sway.

Let me hold your hand.  (Oh won’t you let me hold your…)

So long have I waited, and now in my prime,

I guess I’ll wait a little more, but you’re running out of time.

Who you are I don’t know but I will learn when you hold my hand.

6.  Music Without Melodies

I can hear music in the night, music that makes me feel alright,

music without words or melodies, sounds just like a piano without the keys

The song begins when the sun goes down and the blue sky starts to turn.

It turns into purple, orange and gold, and calls upon the moon.

At first the song is just wind in the trees, but it builds and then brings me to my knees.

I can hear music in the night, music that makes me feel alright,

music without words or melodies, sounds just like a piano without the keys

The cricket chirps and the peeper calls.  The nightingale sings to the stars.

I can hear music.  Can you hear it too?  It’s not, perhaps, what you’re used to,

but still it is music to me.

Listen to the stream babbling in the dark.  Listen to the reeds.

If you listen you will hear the songs of the night, and you will feel alright tonight.

I hear music in the night, music that makes me feel alright,

music without words or melodies, sounds just like a piano without the keys,

just listen to the wind blowing in the trees

7.  Darkness Sets Them Free

When the sun is out and sky is blue you may think you clearly see,

but the brightest star hides all the rest, only darkness sets them free

The brightest star in my life or yours can give us all we need and more,

but it can also blind us too and turn the starry sky askew,

it’s only bright because it’s so close, no wonder that we love it most

When the sun is out and sky is blue you may think you clearly see,

but the brightest star hides all the rest, only darkness sets them free

When sun goes down and stars arise you must trust more than just your eyes,

for stars are faint and far away and only in the night they stay,

they’re only dim because they’re so far, no wonder we wonder what they are

Is there someone who shines but dimly in your eyes and in your dreams?

Would this someone shine more brightly if you came in close to see?

Is there someone who shines but dimly in your eyes and in your dreams?

Would this someone shine more brightly if you came in close to see?

When the sun is out and sky is blue you may think you clearly see,

but the brightest star hides all the rest, only darkness sets them free

8.  Songs From Dreams

Are things what they seem or am I in a dream?

I wonder if I have been here before.

This feeling’s repeating and I cannot be sure.

Places I recall but they’re not real at all, oh no,

just memories from dreams dreamt years and years ago.

And it would seem that from my dream the songs I sang are gone.

The songs I sang like church bells rang but more I can’t recall.

I remember only when I am in the dream and the song comes along.

And are things what they seem or am I in a dream?

I wonder if I have been here before.

And it would seem that from my dream the songs I sang are gone.

The songs I sang like church bells rang but more I can’t recall.

9.  There’s a Girl in Lima

There’s a girl in Lima and she knows my name (she knows my name)

There’s a girl in Lima, I met her on the train (we met and she knows my name)

There’s a girl in Lima and, I say, there’s a girl who wanted me to stay (she told me)

When I met her on the train, I had just got off the plane

We were sitting for awhile before she gave me a smile

And my heart was set aflame as I asked her for her name

Now the train ride was done, so we stepped into the sun

As I gazed in her dark eyes under bright Peruvian skies

All was well, but it wouldn’t last, she left her gladness in the past

There’s a girl in Lima and she knows my name (she knows my name)

There’s a girl in Lima, I met her on the train (we met and she knows my name)

There’s a girl in Lima and, I say, there’s a girl who wanted me to stay (she told me)

We danced in Barranco to music marked, “largo”

We swam by the cliffs and we watched the birds, watched the skiffs

But then I had to go back home so

I will dream a girl in Lima

10.  It’s Halloween

And now, in jack-o-lantern’s eye, as the candle starts to die

like a ghost am I, ooh

The moon is full and the stars are bright

for this is Halloween, my friend, and spirits own the night

If you see a skeleton (or three)

and if you can hear the howl of werewolves on the wind

then you may not assume the dead are in their tombs

or that witches are without their flying brooms, oh no!

So if you dare, if you don’t fear, then come along with me

A frightful scene, it’s Halloween! Ooh

Come along with me, my friend, you ought to see

the sights and sounds, the zombie hounds

So come along with me

Ooh, come along with me, ooh

11.  Obvious With Me

What is clear to you may be

not so obvious to me

And ev’ry time I try to find your meaning it is like I’m blind.  Oh yes!

You make me guess an’ guess

Now something I’ll confess: I like you nonetheless.  Oh yes!  Oh yes!

Tell me something: how am I supposed to know what you’re thinking?

I cannot read minds after all

so I don’t know your wish although I can recall what you said to me

Oh and I know you recall what I said to you:

If you want somethin’ then tell me somethin’:

how I’m supposed to know unless you tell me so?

Now don’t be shy, look me in the eye

If you want somethin’ then tell me somethin’:

how I’m supposed to know unless you tell me so?

Now don’t be shy, look me in the eye

What’s clear to you may not be to me

So let’s quit the games, just be obvious with me

12.  Love, Be Not Afraid

Why is it that ev’ry time I tell you, “I have to tell you something.”

You already know what I will say?  And in a way it’s like you see right through me

And why is it that I, even though I try, cannot seem to guess what it is on your mind?

I think I know, it’s ‘cause you’re so afraid that I won’t love you

Love, be not afraid, for even if you break my heart

Love, be not afraid, for even if we grow apart

Love, be not afraid, for I will be there

Love, be not afraid, you have nothing left to fear

When I first met you I never thought that we’d be together someday

For you never gave me any signs that you’d be mine until the day that I grew bold

And I said, “why not?”, “nothing I have got to lose but ev’rything to gain.”

So I was bold, the rest is old news and, my love, I say to you:

Be not afraid, for even if you break my heart

Love, be not afraid, for even if we grow apart

Love, be not afraid, for I will be there

Love, be not afraid, you have nothing left to fear

Do not hide, don’t hide yourself from me

For if you show me who you are, then I’ll truly see

We all get scared from time to time, I know

But never hold on to your fear, always let it go

Do not be afraid, my love, for I will be there

Do not be afraid, my love, for I will be there

Even if you break my heart, if we grow apart

You have nothing, nothing left to fear
